In this section are grouped varieties which are comparatively new and do not own their derivation directly to the Old Roses (Graham Stuart Thomas). A large number of shrub roses descended from Rosa Rugosa and ensures a rich assortment of species. While these hybrids do not resemble very much the real rugosa roses, they do have the unmistakable stamp of R. rugosa, particularly in its prickly wood, hardiness and fragrance; all but a few are fragrant, some exceedingly so.
